Book Review: The Leaving by Tara Altebrando
This was an odd book. A quote on the cover basically said that it was unputdownable but I found it very easy to put down.
The characters were OK, very little personality even in the ones whose memory hadn't been altered. The plot was intriguing but everything moved very slowly. THe action only takes place over a just over a week yet a lot of the time it seemed longer. I wish it had focused more on the other victims as well. The scene where Scarlett visits Adam fell a little flat, plus there was an unnecessary passage about his little sisters.
The ending seemed very rushed and incomplete and there was one moment with Kristen that if they weren't going to follow through then it just shouldn't have been mentioned. Queer baiting is something that the LBGT community deal with way too often and frankly we're sick of it. I wasn't going to speak so outright as it may count as a spoiler but I don't care. Informing people should come first.
2/5 stars.
